Overview

Dashbook is a vehicle tracking app that helps you log mileage, service records, and fuel fill-ups. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how your data is handled when you use Dashbook.

Data Collection and Storage

Dashbook stores all of your data locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal information on external servers. Your vehicle data, mileage logs, service records, fuel entries, and photos remain entirely on your device.

Specifically, Dashbook stores:

• Vehicle information (make, model, year, VIN, photos)
• Mileage and odometer entries
• Service and maintenance records
• Fuel fill-up logs
• App preferences (theme, units)

None of this data is sent to our servers or any third party. All data resides in a local SQLite database on your device.

Third-Party Services

Dashbook uses the following third-party services:

• NHTSA Vehicle API — When you add a vehicle by VIN or search by make/model, Dashbook queries the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public API to retrieve vehicle information. Only the VIN or make/model you enter is sent to this API. No personal information is transmitted.
• Apple App Store / Google Play — If you purchase Dashbook Pro, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple or Google. We do not receive or store your payment information.

Camera and Photo Library

Dashbook may request access to your camera (for VIN barcode scanning) and photo library (for vehicle photos). Camera access is used solely to scan VIN barcodes. Photo library access is used solely to select vehicle avatar images. Photos are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to any server.

Notifications

Dashbook may request permission to send local notifications for maintenance reminders. These notifications are scheduled locally on your device and do not involve any external server communication.

Backup and Restore

Dashbook Pro users can export their data as a backup file (.dbk). This file is created locally on your device and shared using your device's native share sheet. We do not have access to your backup files. You are responsible for storing your backups securely.

Analytics

Dashbook does not include any analytics, tracking, or telemetry. We do not collect usage data, crash reports, or any behavioral information.

Children's Privacy

Dashbook does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The app does not require account creation or personal information to use.

Data Loss

Since all data is stored locally on your device, uninstalling the app or resetting your device will permanently delete your data. We strongly recommend using the backup feature to protect against data loss. We are not responsible for lost data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
